RISC Training

October 6-9, 2013

2012 was one of the deadliest years on record for reporters, with 70 journalists killed worldwide. Nearly one-third of those killed were freelancers. 2013 has already seen 21 journalist deaths.

As war rages on in Syria and clashes rock Egypt, Reporters Instructed in Saving Colleagues (RISC) is training nearly 100 freelance conflict journalists in lifesaving techniques this year. RISC is a U.S.-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization which provides free battlefield first aid courses to qualified journalists. All RISC trainees return to the field with the knowledge and equipment to treat their own wounds and those of their colleagues and civilians in the field.

These independent reporters are risking their lives to bring us the story from dangerous areas across the Middle East and the rest of the world. Please help us raise funds to train and equip them to keep themselves and their colleagues safe.
